spending the night in a different bed IV

DESCRIPTION

Acrylic on quilted linen and canvas, pine and brass brad frame | 2017

In this ongoing series from multidisciplinary artist Ethan Caflisch, the artist hearkens back to his time in art school when he first started stretching his own canvases — always thinking like a sculptor, and saving the valuable scraps of unused canvas and linen. In the early pieces from the series, Caflisch simply used those not-discarded pieces of material, sewed them together to make them whole again, and applied a bit of sectionalized paint. Later in the series’ development, Caflisch began to introduce non-scrap, intentionally-cut canvas and linen to create purely abstract compositional and color theory pieces from linen, canvas, and sometimes pine and brass.
